1966 Mercedes-Benz 250 SE CoupeMercedes-Benz is a brand that has a reputation for build quality and in the mid-1960s, they were arguably at their peak. After the success of the 300SL and 190SL sports cars and the solid 220 S coupes and sedans, the brand was ready to take things to the next level. With the chassis code W111 or more commonly referred to as the Fintail, these cars replaced the bubbly and dated 220 Pontoon cars with a more angular, aggressive design that came to be a signature feature of Mercedes for decades to come. Utilizing a series of smooth inline-6 powerplants, this line extended beyond sedans, to include both coupes and convertibles as well. In modern times, these beautiful classics are quite sought-after thanks to their exceptional drivability and classic good looks. This 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250 SE Coupe is quite special thanks to its lifelong Seattle-area history and comprehensive receipts dating back to nearly new. First sold through Phil Smart Mercedes, the car was purchased by a Mr.Van Leunen of Mercer Island, WA who owned it until selling it to his mechanic in 1977. The mechanic then owned the car until it was purchased by the most recent owner in 2008, making this a true no-nonsense 3 owner car. Finished in black over a grey interior, the car presents nicely thanks to a high-quality respray that is believed to have been carried out in 1995. Sitting on a set of black steel wheels with chrome and color matched hub caps, the car offers a truly timeless look, especially when paired with its four stacked headlights up front and pillarless windows. The gray interior consists of a pair of front bucket seats and a rear bench with seating for 5 in total. The dashboard is a combination of vinyl and beautiful dark high-polish wood and is one of the first interior designs to curve at the edges, giving the feeling of wrapping around those in the front seats. When you sit in the well cushioned drivers seat, you are met by a large 2-spoke steering wheel with a metal horn ring in the center, that frames a 7,000 rpm tachometer and a 140 mph speedometer with a stack of vertical gauges in the center including oil pressure, water temperature and fuel level.Powering the 250 SE is a 2.5-liter inline-6 that produces 150 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. Although this doesnt sound like a ton today, but when it was first offered in 1965, it offered a massive jump in performance over the outgoing 220 SE, increasing top speed to a remarkable 120 mph. This engine is then paired to a 4-speed manual gearbox which offers slick and precise shifts and is the best way to enjoy this smooth engine. While under the ownership of the second owner, this car received an engine rebuild in 1989 when it was showing just over 140,000 miles. Under his care, the car received a number of other fixes including a front end rebuild as well as numerous new rear-axle parts and to this day the car still tracks straight and drives very nicely. With some service records dating back to when the car was just a few years old, you can see a history of a car that was well loved and given what it needed - not just to stay on the road - but to be a pleasant, fun to drive vehicle.Frequently people will talk about a classic car that you can use as a daily driver - there are some cars that are capable, but many just arent up to the job of being used in todays traffic for one reason or another. This 250 SE is one of the cars that not only could be used nearly every day, but after some time behind the wheel, you very well may not want to drive anything else!Key Features * Three Owners From New * Lifelong Seattle Area Car * 2.5-Liter Inline-6 * 150 Horsepower * Rebuilt in 1989 * 4-Speed Manual Gearbox * Comprehensively Serviced * Some Records Dating Back to 1969 * Repainted in 1995 * A Stunning Classic Pillarless Coupe! For more information on this 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250 SE or any of our High-Performance, Luxury, Exotic, Classic, and Special Interest cars alway
